Eataly NYC...

Eataly opened today in the Flatiron District of NYC...let la dolce vita begin. Eataly is the largest, almost 50,000 square foot artisanal Italian food and wine marketplace in the world, it even has a cooking school.  After opening the first Eataly in Turin two years ago, Oscar  Farinetti turned to Mario Batali to bring the best of Italy's slow food movement to the states. Who better than Mario Batali, the king of NY Italian food to do it. Batali has described the emporium as a "temple" and the philosophy is that it " is not just a market but a food experience". No doubt you will need more than one visit to take in this food wonderland and all the restaurants each focusing on the different markets within Eataly...the only advice, go with an empty stomach.

Magic Carpet Ride...

What is the easiest way to add a little texture, color and change up a room ? Layer a rug...
In the bathroom it adds a little warmth to any tile floor...

In any living room under any coffe table thrown on top of whatever rug you already have...

In a little one's room it adds a comfy place for them to hang out and play dress-up...

Or add one of these Ikat babies made from recycled saris in India...

Kickin' with the bells...

Although Jimi Hendrix did rock the bell-bottom better than anyone, the flared bottom is a nice alternative when you want a break from your skinnies...

thanks for the inspiration Jimi...

Big Bambu: You Can't, You Don't and You Won't Stop...

Remarkable...the Big Bambu installation on the roof of The Metropolitan Museum of Art through October 31. The structure, the brainchild of Mike and Doug Stam, twin brothers from New Jersey born in 1961. Measuring 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and 50 feet high takes the form of a cresting wave. Constructed over the course of the spring, summer and now moving into the fall by the brothers and a team of rock climbers is set against the beauty of Central Park and the city scape and takes on the energy and complexity of an ever-changing organism.

Must Have Mondays...

So the "Monday Must Have" for this week is not something you can buy and never goes out of style...it is the most important relationship we will ever have, the relationship to ourselves...it is the basis of every other relationship we have, it lets us love others the way we do and forgive the way we do. Once we truly love and except who we are, the rest is easy. Be kind to yourself today...

Elegant and cool...a bag and a song.

Don't Reece Hudson bags hit that sweet spot between luxury and street style chic...the line which launched in 2009 in New York City pairs hand stitched craftsmanship, timeless style and a sort of effortless cool.

Leopard + Lemon...

Leopard for fall and Lemon for that end of the summer pop of color...

Farm house inspiration...

Loving the idea of adding an unexpected wooden accent...in the kitchen add a great old wooden farm table and in the bathroom take down the door and install a fabulous old wooden door that slides open...

Got it goin' on...

Got it goin'on...laid-back glamour.

Friday Fall Favorites...A New Chapeau

Taking a cue from the just way too cool for school girlfriend/bandmate of Sean Lennon, Charlotte Kemp Muhl...add a wide brimmed hat a la the 70's to your fall collection.

"Lines On The Road..sometimes life moves slow but we're always movin along"...

Lines on the road...off the first full length album release by New Orleans singer/songwriter Krisin Diable...if you have been lucky enough to see her in person in her regular performances at the Living Room in NYC or one of the other small venues she has been playing for years, you'll agree it's about time she released this album. The cool thing is she did it all with money contributed by listeners, a little brilliant concept called "crowdsourcing". 10 songs written and recorded in 10 weeks- grassroots in concept proving that when you want to get something done if you think outside the box remarkable things happen. Check her out if she hits your city- well worth it.

Tip of the hat to the resilience of the people of New Orleans on the 5 year anniversary of Katrina.

She's got everything she needs...

As she unpacked her bags and put away her passport stamped full of all the places she had been- she looked at the most recent treasure she had bought and placed it in the box where she kept all the other jewelry she had collected over time on her adventures...Before she left he told her that Bob Dylan's "She Belongs To Me" reminded him of her- he put it on just before he kissed her and whispered he was glad she was home..."she's got everything she needs she's an artist she don't look back... she wears an Egyptian red ring it sparkles before she speaks...she's got everything she needs she's an artist she don't look back...played as they fell asleep.

What lies beneath...sheer blouse stylin'

Leave a little to the imagination with a neutral sheer blouse- sorta something mischievous about it and at the same time super chic.  It will have him asking...whatcha ya got on underneath ?

Use your voice...

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros+ A Little Lace

A happy song and a little lace to start the day...Lead singer Alex Ebert has said "I don't think utopia is achievable in this lifetime. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try". Sounds like a plan...rise and shine beauty !

The Head Scarf Chronicles...

There are certain looks you just have to try...the head scarf is one. Although it is not for everyone, you have to agree there is something interesting about the unexpected accessory. Even if you just throw one on at the end of a day at the beach instead of a hat...what better way to give new life to all the scaves you've collected over the years. And best of all, this look crosses all style lines from uptown chic to downtown cool...

Endless Summer Inspiration + LOVER...

Sorta feels like fall hit NYC today...gets you thinking about how to take end of summer looks into fall. Take a little inspiration from the cool folks at LOVER in Australia. Add a blazer and skinny belt on top of your favorite summer dress or a little blazer on top of shorts...and when it gets even cooler throw on a pair of tights and boots. In the meantime remember to savour the final days of summer.

Sweden Rocks...Hasbeens clogs

Still going strong- the Swedish clog remains the perfect option. Swedish Hasbeens a top pick- handmade ethically from sustainably harvested wood and vegetable tanned, natural grain leather...with a great story behind them. "Her name was Anita and she was the hottest mum in all of southern Sweden in the 1970’s. While smoking Camel she screamed at her kids until her curlers fell out and just looked fabulous in her white high-heeled clogs. One summer day in 2006 we found the shoes she wore (300 pairs of red, white and black beautiful clogs from the 70’s) in the basement of an old clog factory in the neighboring village and brought them to Stockholm. So for all these people that shared our love for Anita’s wooden shoes and for ourselves we started Swedish Hasbeens"...There is no way to pick just one, available in a variety of colors and styles...this will become your favorite shoe if it hasn't already...promise.

Waiting...

Aaron Feaver photograph with original text by Accidental Brilliance

The intimacy of a moment...

Interesting the thought of the powerful intimacy that a moment holds...we spend the day experiencing so many individual moments, strung together they are our life but seldom do we stop to savour them as they are happening. With a preference for polaroid film Chloe Aftel (photos above and below) has a brilliant way of capturing the emotion of the precise moment the photograph is taken...the now instead of what is next or what came before. Encouraging us to..."Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate you friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is. "
