Fascinated by the Fascinator. Accidental Brilliance at the moment favorite...

I am simply fascinated by the Fascinator and after watching the Royal Wedding early this morning I got curious about their origin...

...here are a few facts I found interesting. " The fascinator is a headpiece or a style of millinery that originally referred to a fine, lacey or wool head covering which by the 1970's was almost obsolete ". As they have made a comeback the meaning has slightly changed, and is now used to describe a delicate slightly-to-very frivolous head decoration. Recently they have become popular with the younger set in London in place of the customary oversized hat. When worn as an evening accessory they are called a "cocktail hat", don't you love that ? Modern fascinators are made with feathers, flowers and beads. Sometimes they are a little over the top but why not have a little fun ? They attach to the hair by a comb or headband. And, it is being said that the fascinator is quickly becoming popular with brides in place of a veil. I think I like that idea and for sure I would love to rock one at a party or how about a day at the races...count me in.

Great selection of fascinators available at ASOS and the best part some of them are super affordable between $20 to $40. ASOS also carries a few by famed milliner Philip Treacy.

Love what she is wearing...

...for the way a baggy rolled up pant has a little bit of masculine appeal but somehow becomes super feminine in an unexpected way, for the look of mile long legs when you wear a super long tight pair of jeans, for the way thin white cotton is by far the best accessory for summer in any shape you fancy and the way just a bit of lace makes a whole lot of difference.

Sufjan Stevens. Playin' on repeat today...

...just before bed. Hit repeat and think about the day. Perhaps we won't be understood by everyone and that is alright. The beautiful part is that the people who do understand, they are the ones that count. Cherish them and love them. Sweet dreams tonight and always...

INSPIRATION FOUND.

Inspiration found...in Bo Derek on the set of Tarzan in 1981. Despite the fact that the outfit was a costume for the movie and it was almost thirty years ago, there is just such a natural beauty to it. Timeless.

I AM...

...sorta, really overdue for a haircut and lately I have been wearing my hair up in a bun or a messy ponytail. This morning I found myself looking for a new do...

...isn't that bow tied with her hair beautiful or that low knot against her back. Until I can get a trim I think I have few new ideas to go with.

Accidental Superfood + Supplement Series...Coconut Oil

So although maybe one of best parts of a palm tree is lazing beneath it as the breeze gently rocks a hammock, I would say the sweet smelling oil of the coconut is a close second. There are so many health and beauty benefits that make it pretty remarkable stuff. There is plenty of research that credit the oil with the ability to help maintain cholesterol levels, increase immunity, keep the thyroid functioning, and help with weight loss and digestion, and that's just a start. When it comes to natural beauty wonders, coconut oil is the perfect ingredient. Right out of the jar with nothing added smooth the oil on and watch dry skin disappear or one of my favorite tricks, smooth on hair over night for extra shine. This stuff is worth adding into your diet or beauty regime in one way or another. And it's also a great oil to choose for cooking, just be sure to buy virgin coconut oil, my favorite is by Spectrum. For lots more info click on over here  and grab a jar next time you are at the market.

Sunday Simple Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from My Morning Jacket...

...I caught an old Austin City Limits show with My Morning Jacket late last night and I had the same thought I always have when I hear them...there is this nostalgia I sense, almost a deja vu from another time yet I can't quite place what the familiar feeling is. Deja vu is such an incredible feeling, the emotion of something you once knew...as familiar as it is unfamiliar.

Accidental Brilliance Eco Favorites...

My list of eco favorites is ever evolving...I try to constantly seek out new ways to be kind to the body, soul and the planet. But, I always try to stay loyal to a few of my favorites...from the natural soaps that are always beside the sink, the local raw honey in my morning tea, the reusable tote bags I always bring to the market, the most delicious raw vegan brownie bar you have ever tasted and a few other favorites...

...although in respect to the vastness of the world we are each really just tiny particles, I try to remember that we have a responsibility to do good, be good and constantly strive to be better for ourselves and mother earth...Happy Earth Day !

Eco- chic is the way to go and today in honor of Earth Day, H&M has got it right with their new Conscious Collection...sustainable fabrics at affordable prices. It is so great to see bigger retailers finally realizing that we need to take responsibility for the earth and and be more conscious of the way we are making and consuming in this case clothes. Good for the planet and the wallet, can't beat that.

Use Your Voice...United By Blue

When I first found this canvas tote I liked it because it reminded me of an old school tool bag, which I think makes a perfect Spring bag. When I looked closer I had found a great bag and a chance to Use My Voice and support a great cause and company, United By Blue. After buying the bag I looked into the company a bit more and have been following their blog ever since. With tomorrow being Earth Day, what better time than now to purchase one. United By Blue is a sustainable clothing and accessories company with a simple and effective mission, for every 1 product sold they remove 1 pound of trash from the world's oceans and waterways. We sometimes forget that the oceans give life to all, they control the weather, give more oxygen than all land plants combined and provide 2 billion people with their main source of protein, but with pollution and an estimated 14 billion pounds of trash a year dumped in them we are destroying them. We can't save the earth alone but together we can join in the fight and saving the oceans is a great start for sure.

I AM...

...in love with the idea of soft feminine blouses paired with minimal natural accessories. That combination of flirty and earthy meet up to achieve a perfect middle ground.

...maybe because I have been fascinated by crystals and their mystical and healing power for a really long time. There is a great website called Peaceful Mind that breaks down the benefits and uses of different crystals. Although for some I guess it takes an open mind to think about including them in your life, once you learn about them and that they were and are used in many civilizations to assist along the road to healing the body and focusing or clearing the mind, I say why not learn more. And if you want to see the rest of the collection of the simple beautiful necklaces by The Vamoose check out their website here.

Can't take my eyes off...

Can't take my eyes off the unconventional beauty of Renee Perle the muse and girlfriend of French photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue, considered one of the most notable photographers of the twentieth century. Perhaps it is the way he described her..." around her I see a halo of magic " that at one time makes her innocent and yet mysterious...

Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series...Goji Berries

Call me crazy but something about the color of the towel she is all wrapped up in reminds me of goji berries, and maybe it also the fact that I just finished a handful of them but I decided I had to include them again in my weekly Superfood + Supplement Series. I just don't think they get enough good press in comparison to the good they can do for the body. Known as an adaptogen or substance with a combination of therapeutic actions on the body, they have been used in India, China and Tibet for over 6000 years to boost the immune system, promote anti-aging and longevity among many other uses. A great source of B vitamins and a pure protein source they also strengthen the system to deal with stress, who can't use that. The most interesting benefit they have on the body is they increase the production in our body of HGH or human growth hormone. If you aren't all that familiar with HGH, as we get older the body makes less of it. What do we need it for ?  HGH in the body helps to prevent wrinkling, stop hair from losing color, keep our energy levels high, provide the ability to soundly sleep and the list goes on from there. Goji berries are one of the only legal and safe known ways to increase HGH and, a  handful a day is all you need to get the benefits and since we only get this one body, why not treat it right !

Accidental Brilliance In The Beauty Bag...

Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplememt Series...Avocados

Without a doubt one of my favorite foods is the avocado, from the delicious taste all the way down to the luxurious oil. Not a day goes by where I don't use the oil in the shower and smooth it on my face every morning. But the creamy delicious fruit is one of the most misunderstood foods out there. More common than not people steer clear of the fruit assuming it is high in fat and calories forgetting that there are such things as good fats which actually speed up the metabolism. Not only are avocados full of the good fats they are incredibly rich in vitamins, nutrients and minerals. They are also a great source of protein and fiber, sorta makes sense why they are considered a perfect food for babies. Credited with helping to protect the body against cancer, heart disease and arthritis there is no reason to not get more of this fruit into your life. Here is an easy and great guacamole recipe from Rosa Mexicano a favorite Mexican restaurant, or just spread some on a slice of whole grain toast with olive oil and hot pepper flakes. And did you know that avocado oil is a natural sunscreen ? I know this stuff does it all.

Aerin Lauder...Accidental Brilliance Monday Muse

...muse worthy for her effortless, classic style and her entrepreneurial spirit. After reading last week that she has decided to launch her own lifestyle brand AERIN in early 2012, I am guessing her grandmother Estee Lauder would surely be proud. So far it looks like she will delve into the world of accessories, eyewear and home goods along with a line of cosmetics.  I am definitely looking forward to seeing what she creates.
