Millicent Rogers...Accidental Brilliance Monday Muse
When it comes to muses without a doubt many of today's most stylish spirits take their cues from days gone by and icons from another time. Millicent Rogers (1902-1953) is just one of those ladies for me. The style setter was the heiress to the Standard Oil fortune and proudly marched to the beat of her own drum. To escape the typical life of an heiress she moved out to Taos New Mexico and much of her style reflected a mix of that bohemian lifestyle with the otherwise expected style of an heiress of that time. Known for traveling with thirty five suitcases and seven dachshunds, she is without a doubt one of the most stylish women of the twentieth century. The photos below, ran in a layout in the NY Times about 10 years ago as an hommage to Ms. Rogers with the amazing jewelry from her personal collection. And if you are looking for a new book, Searching For Beauty The Life of Millicent Rogers, is worth a read. Full of the stories of her adventures and romances plus a peek into the sort of high society that these days we just don't see. Without a doubt this little lady will always be muse worthy.
