Benefits of Brussel Sprouts...Accidental Brilliance Suprfood + Supplement Series

So most people either love brussel sprouts or they hate them. I happen to love them and not just for the taste but for their incredible nutritional value, they are packed with vitamins A and C and high in fiber. I have written about it before but,  we just don't get enough fiber in our diet and we NEED it. Brussel sprouts have 4 grams of fiber per serving which is pretty good when it comes to vegetables, and the fiber is what helps keep blood sugar levels low and keeps overeating in check. There are a number of other benefits but I think one of the most notable benefits is the ability of brussel sprouts to help fight inflammation and in turn help fight disease, in particular cancer. There are so many great ways to prepare brussel sprouts but this is one of my favorite, simple recipes...

The Olsen Sisters...Accidental Brilliance Monday Muse(s)

... the inspiration just never stops coming from these two phenoms. High up on the favorite muses list for so many reasons but, mostly for their always on point mix of uptown chic and downtown cool.

Sunday Simple Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from Natalie Merchant...

...I sometimes think about the people who I have shared parts of my life with who,  for one reason or another, good or bad are no longer around. What was the last thing they said ? Perhaps we would pay more attention if we thought it might be last thing they shared with us, maybe it would have meant more. What was the last really nice thing someone said to you ? When was the last time you said something nice to someone for no reason ? I have always loved the thought that sometimes the smallest things we say to someone can fill in the whole in their heart. Indeed when words are kind they can change everything.

Use Your Voice...

The Hunger Site

With the holiday season upon us there will no doubt be millions of people around the world who will go hungry this year. There is something you can do, Use Your Voice and help feed the hungry. I have posted before about The Hunger Site and this time of year feels like the perfect time to highlight again what an exceptional idea they have. They are dedicated to feeding the hungry around the world and they make it very simple to get involved with just one simple click. Click on over to their site, hit the GIVE button and instantly they will donate 1.1 cups of food to the hungry. I have their site bookmarked and everyday when I check my daily emails I click on over and hit the GIVE button, it's the least I can do to help make the life of someone in need a bit better and in a small way help make a big difference.

Thanks(giving)...

....so many things to be thankful for this year. And although I think we should spend a bit of time everyday thinking about what we are thankful for, I know sometimes life gets in the way of finding the time to string together the small details, the ups and downs, the thoughtful things people say and do, the things that make up a life. The songs that become your soundtrack, the sunrise that inspires a new day, the heartbreak that makes you realize how strong you are, the tear that slips down your cheek from laughing so hard it hurts, the knowing that tomorrow is a new day and everything is going to work out. Thankful for so much this year and hopeful that we are all on the right path...

INSPIRATION FOUND.

...such a brilliant thought. The less you care, the happier you will be.  Society places all these pretenses on what makes a person happy. But what really makes you happy ? If you could live anywhere and be anything what would you be, where would you go ? And despite it all, if you didn't care what anyone thought what would you change ?

Benefits of Flaxseed Oil...Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series

There are many supplements I take everyday and others I rotate in and out depending on how I am feeling health wise, flax seed oil is one that is a pretty constant in the mix. Flax seed oil is a rich source of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Lately no matter where you look there is more and more news coming out about the importance of essential fatty acids, and for good reason. If it is better cholesterol, more efficient metabolism, hormone regulation, cardiovascular health and better cognitive thinking ability to name just a few- flaxseed oil just might be worth adding into your routine. But, did you know that it is all about the balance. Omega 3 tends to reduce inflammation while omega 6 has been known to promote inflammation.  An inappropriate balance of these fatty acids leads to disease while a proper balance leads to better health. A healthy diet should consist of roughly two to four times more omega 6-fatty acids than omega 3-fatty acids. The typical diet contains 14 to 25 times more omega 6-fatty acids than omega-3. Many researchers believe that this is the reason that we have such higher incidences of disease and inflammation. It is simple to get it into your diet, I just take a few tablespoons straight up but you can add it to smoothies and salad dressings for a nutty flavor. My favorite is Barlean's Cold Pressed Oil but check out what your local helath food store carries. Promise this is one supplement worth the investment.

Simple Sunday Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' From My Morning Jacket...

...and if it's a strong and clear mind, this man's voice sends me on the path to it. I have said it before but there is a deja vu that I feel when I listen to him, not sure if it is from something I have known or something that I have yet to know...

Love What She Is Wearing...

...serious love for a lady in a scarf worn turban style or a collection of necklaces collected over time, strung together to tell the story of where she's been and where she's going.

Patience...

I have always been fascinated with the virtue of patience...perhaps because I very deeply believe that if you embrace the patience that is necessary in a situation, it will unfold as it is meant to. That does not mean that everything will always work out, but without the common tendency to interrupt out of the need for instant gratification when you wait things out they tend to make sense. And just as not all things work out, not all things make the sense you expected. Practice patience has always been one of my guiding lights...what is meant to work out will work out. There is a certain sense of shelter in that thought...

Benefits of Beets. Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series...

There is no doubt that when it comes to reaping the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables, juicing them gives you more bang for the buck in the vitamin department. But there is always that question, which should I include in my fresh juice ? Beets are one of the vegetables that belong in the mix, well known as one of the most powerful cleansing and blood building juices around. They contain four of the most important vitamins and nine of the essential minerals that the body needs. They have a bit of protein and are a great source of iron. And, the trick to getting the most out of your beets, include the tops or the greens which are a perfect source of chlorophyll, vitamin A, C, calcium and potassium. The juice tends to be very strong so throw a few apples in the juicer to lighten and sweeten up the flavor. And here is my handy juicing guide so you can juice up the best blend tailor made for you.

Loulou de la Falaise...Accidental Brilliance Monday Muse

When it comes to rounding up a weekly muse, Loulou de la Falaise definitely belongs up there on the list. Well known as the muse of Yves Saint Laurent who she met in 1968. The inspiration  for his famous Le Tuxedo, the groundbreaking menswear inspired tuxedo. And as far as sexy goes, a woman in a perfectly fitted tuxedo is just about as sexy as it gets. When I heard the sad news that she passed on last week, I went to look in my inspiration files for photogrpahs of her home that I had saved. This lady will always be muse worthy for sure...

Inspiration Found. The Artwork of Dorothy Goode...

Something truly fascinating about the artwork of Dorothy Goode. Taps into that inner debate and decision to leave certain things undsaid. Beneath the emotions or in this case beneath the colors, words that can't quite be deciphered and in turn remain unspoken. Somehow beautiful yet, perhaps also wasted.

From That Comes This...

Have you ever stopped to think about time and patience, that the beauty of certain experiences is not always instantly revealed. From one experience comes the next...the natural evolution of the soul, of inspiration and of your journey. So let it happen, let go and go with the flow.
