...this is it, here we are about to walk into a new year where anything is possible, DON'T HESITATE. Take the risk you've been afraid of, put it all on the line, take a chance and believe in yourself. You more than anyone else deserves the best of everything so get out there and get it...DON'T HESITATE.
Since no day is complete without music, no year would be complete without a list of the best albums released in 2011 and the ones that played the most around here...
1. Fleet Foxes- Helplesness Blues...because there is solace in every song these guys do.
2. The Decemberists- The King is Dead...because they feel nostalgic and a little like home.
3. Bon Iver- Bon Iver...because this man is emotion and makes you feel it.
4. The Roots- Undun...because these boys are can throw it down.
5. Cold War Kids- Mine Is Yours...because they tap into what made 80's new wave music so classic.
6. Red Hot Chili Peppers- I'm With You...because they can do no wrong.
...and there are no coincindences, as I am putting this post together in the background Bon Iver plays and this song, my favorite from the album I share with you...

Can't take my eyes off the work of Australian artist William H. Luke, the layers of color and uncertainty. Something about it reminiscent of a new year where much is unclear. Layered with experience or color, you wait standing on your tippy toes to walk through the door that will be 2012. Take my hand I promise it will be bright.

...just about time to start thinking about what to wear for new year's eve. Doesn't matter if your going out on the town or chillin' at home I always think adding a little glam into the mix gets the new year off to the right start. And here's to making this new year an amazing, healing, productive and peaceful one !

...this one is called sparks. Sometimes they fly...with someone you just met or someone you once knew. They don't happen all the time and when they do, let them light up your sky. Connections, true connections are rare...
...sometimes it just takes the right shade of a color against the skin, a cool bag, the perfect fit on a pair of jeans or something a little unexpected like a turban to make you do a double take and decide for sure the Girl Has Got It Goin' On.

With the most indulgent part of the holiday season just about over, now is the time to get yourself ready to ring in the new year in tip top shape. I was looking through a pile of books today for a book I find myself referring to all the time when I want to detox and although I have shared it before it's worth a repeat mention. There is always lots of talk about cleansing and detoxing and in moderation it can be a good thing, but you need to be sure to do it it in a healthy way. Nothing overly extreme for two reasons, first because it is difficult to stick to it and second because it is not good for your body to go to extremes. There are small steps you can take, foods you can incorporate and others to eliminate to start 2012 off on the right foot. There are so many books out on the subject, Clean by Alejandro Junger is a favorite of mine...easy to follow guidance and great recipes with real food as opposed to some of the liquid cleanses out there top the list of why it has become a favorite. I guarantee after you follow his program or any program you find that suits your needs you will feel better for it. Every once in awhile just like the mind, your body needs a break and like the title of his book you need to Clean house a little.

...all of it, the good and the bad. Take a few minutes to think about it, the entirety of a year. The things you saw, the things you loved, the things that excited you and scared you. The people you met, the places you went, the memories you made. 2011...for all it's worth it was a good year. For today think about tomorrow...and the next day.
...can't take my eyes off how beautiful the headpieces that were worn at the latest Chanel runway show were. Depositing these in the Style Files for a little New Year's Eve bling idea !

Was lucky to see this performed live a few weeks ago, without a doubt one of the best concerts I have seen. I have said it before, there is just something so familiar about his voice, something that feels like home, mends all the scrapes.

...every year I think I am struck with the same thought around the holidays, usually hits me when I am in a store shopping for gifts and people are frantically grabbing anything they can, do they realize that life goes fast and the things that really matter can't be measured by possessions or toys under the tree, can't be rung up at a register in a department store. Are we taking enough time to remember that what people really want or maybe need is to know that you will be there for them, that you believe in them, that you love them. In the end those are the things that will have mattered, the simple things, the things you said, the things you made.

...been a bit busy and forgot to post about my trip to Art Basel in Miami a few weeks ago. There were what felt like miles of artwork and a bit of good people watching to boot. I was not familiar with the work of John Armleder but was instantly drawn to it. On tremendous canvases it was if paint had slipped down in random and yet perfectly deliberate patterns. Thinking about trying to duplicate one of his pieces for sure.

...with the holidays upon us it seems like you need one of two options, a little somethin' fancy for a night out to celebrate or somethin' super casual for running around doing last minute shopping. Either way it's safe to say a great shoe or a pop of color is great for dressing it up at night and a trusted flannel and great bag slung over the body is all you need for a day of shopping for gifts. Here's to ringing in the season in style and leavin' em saying...the girl has got it goin' on !

Over the last few months I have been working on a project that has me traveling to a more tropical climate and weekends I find myself out on a long bike ride ending with a delicious smoothie in a favorite new health food restaurant. With a combination of coconut milk, dates, frozen banana and papaya nectar it is for sure a splurge but totally worth it. Although I eat fruit without fail everyday, papaya is not normally in the rotation. As I was sipping my smoothie this past weekend I started to look up the benefits of papaya and realized that I should be fitting it into my diet a bit more often. An excellent source of dietary fiber, folate, vitamin A,E, and one of the highest sources of vitamin C, it is also rich in antioxidant nutrients, flavonoids and carotenes. It is a perfect source of enzymes and as we get older we produce less digestive enzymes so eating papaya or enzyme rich foods becomes important. Eaten after a meal it makes for better digestion, prevents bloating and chronic indigestion. It can also lower the inflammation in the body, alleviates the pain and edema caused by sport injuries. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, can relieve the severity of Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Because of its high antioxidant content, papaya can also prevent cholesterol oxidation and can be used in preventative treatments against atherosclerosis, strokes, heart attacks and diabetic heart disease. Sort of seems a bit silly to not grab one next time you are at the store right ? And I guess it gives me a good excuse to keep ordering my favorite decadent smoothie !

I used to wait to eat edamame until I was having sushi but, a few years ago I started to eat it as a snack during the day. I just finished a bowl and although I have shared this recipe before I love it because it is so simple. There are so many benefits packed in these perfect little pods that make it a great source of protein and fiber, not to mention iron, vitamin A, C, and K. And although there has been a little controversy about adding soy into your diet, the isoflavones or phytoestrogens in edamame have been proven to help lower cholesterol and lower the risk of heart disease, cancer and inflammation. There are so many great recipes that include edamame although, a warm bowl with sea salt is still one of my favorites, this hummus recipe is another great option...
