Benefits of Raw Sunflower Seeds...Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series

I have mentioned many times that I am fascinated by the beauty and strength of Native Americans, I was recently reading about their history and found it interesting that their diet historically was rich primarily in berries, roots, teas and nuts in order to keep tribal members powerful and robust. Sunflower seeds were one of the nuts they commonly ate to draw strength and nutrition. They ate them raw, ground them into meal for breads and cakes and used them for medicinal applications. I have recently been eating sunflower seeds more often mostly for the taste although they pack a punch in the nutritional department as well. A 1/2-cup serving of sunflower seeds provides 14.5 g protein, or 29 percent of the 50 g the FDA recommended daily value. And since protein builds muscle tissue and enzymes that execute important metabolic and digestive functions, I say a few more handfuls are in order. They are loaded with vitamin E as well,  1/2 cup of sunflower seeds is 36.5 IU, or 122 percent of the 30 IU FDA daily value. And we all know vitamin E is an important antioxidant that often acts with selenium to protect cells from free radicals, by-products of metabolism that cause oxidative damage. A mild deficiency in vitamin E is common among Americans, according to numerous studies, so here is the simplest way to avoid that. And they are crazy good when it comes to minerals, in just a 1/2-cup serving you get 37 mcg of selenium,  and 462 mg of phosphorus. And in case you forgot, selenium protects healthy cells from toxins, while magnesium is a mineral that helps muscles relax and phosphorus works with calcium to build and maintain bone density. My favorite way to eat them is on top of a salad of, wild arugula, shredded carrots, flat leaf parsley, hunza raisins ( which are beyond delicious and 100% mineral rich), topped with a generous handful of raw sunflower seeds a little olive oil and lemon, simple and always hits the spot. And don't forget, if you want to up the protein content of nuts and reduce the fat content, soak them in water overnight before eating them and voila the ratio of  protein vs fat changes. And when you can always opt for raw nuts that have not been processed, it makes all the difference in getting the optimum nutrition out of them.

Sunday Simple Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from Jose Gonzales

Indeed there is no question of going anywhere because we are already there, already where we need to be in this exact moment.  And even if it is not where you want to be, it is where you need to be to get where it is you are going next of that there is no question.

For Today...

...and it's only after you step outside your comfort zone that the real stuff happens. The mind blowing, life altering, amazing moments. Because, if you can imagine it, you can have it.  Despite how comfortable you might be, nestled in the routine of life, there is so much more that can be yours, will be yours. Step outside and let it unfold, the life you imagined, the one in your wildest dreams. Life truly does begin at the end of your comfort zone.

Taken By The Poetry of Tyler Knott...

On scraps of paper, a torn receipt, a gum wrapper or a corner of an old newspaper I have been scribbling notes, thoughts and ideas for most of my life. The start to a love letter, an idea that comes and is gone that fast, a list for the market or things I want to do, see and be...I think that is why I am so taken by the beautiful poetry of Tyler Knott. I have written about him before and the eloquence of his Daily Haiku on love, tiny little treasures that fill up the holes in your heart when you least expect it. Recently he has started posting typewritten poems on what seems like anything he can find, an old map, scrap of graph paper or old paper bag and in a world where things move to fast and connections are lost,  he has touched upon what it is to love and be loved.

If you have not stopped by his blog it is a must, it is a usual part of my morning...for the inspiration and the calm. Bookmark it if you haven't already right on over here.

Accidental Brilliance In The Beauty Bag...

...as usual I have found a few new all natural beauty finds to add to the mix. Put them together and you get a perfect trio for soft, sweet smelling, glowy skin. This blush which I guarantee is the perfect hint of peachy pink illumination was an instant favorite the moment I tried it and anything with argan oil is pretty much a hit around here and who can't use another soap, this one is packed with hydrating shea butter. Looks like the beauty bag just got a little bit heavier.

Levon Helm + The Band...Tunes For A Tuesday

After hearing the news that Levon Helm of The Band had passed on I went to listen to some of their music although somehow they are on so many of the playlists on my iTunes, this song for many different reasons has been a long time favorite. There is something familiar about it, something sad but comforting at the same time if that seems possible. I have posted about the documentary The Last Waltz before but now seems like a good time to rewatch it. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film is the last concert of The Band in 1976 at The Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The Last Waltz was advertised as the last performance of the group's career and saw them joined by dozens of musicians from Joni Mitchell to Neil Young and Bob Dylan in addition to a dozen other artists. The Winterland Ballroom the venue that was used for shows that were to large to fit into the famed Fillmore was host to a number of epic concerts recorded for live albums and for sure this was just one of those epic shows. So many great performances and from Levon Helm so many great songs.

Benefits of Raw Coconut...Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series

Since we are all trying to maintain healthy skin, it makes sense to figure out which foods will help us get there the quickest right ? Obviously if we can find out which foods are the richest in specific nutrients those are the ones we should be including in our diet daily. One food that will get ya to the healthiest skin is raw coconut in it's many forms. Raw coconut contains properties that help promote clearer, healthier and more youthful skin. Eating raw coconut oil regularly is a simple and natural way to achieve vibrant skin. Raw coconut contains medium-chain saturated fats. Although other types of saturated fat are generally considered bad for your health because they can become trapped in fat tissue, medium-chain saturated fats are used by the body efficiently and transformed into energy. Raw coconut also contains properties that act as antibacterials and anti-inflammatory agents to decrease bacterial overgrowth, irritation and inflammation in the body. For cooking raw coconut oil is perfect for baking, or stir-frys, I even eat it straight off the spoon sometimes. It's great for snacking as long as you are sure you are getting 100% dehydrated raw coconut and for skin and hair care all you have to do is get yourself a jar of virgin coconut oil and go to town. The smell is beachy and relaxing and it makes the perfect moisturizer and hair conditioner. I have mentioned it before but 1/2 tsp of raw coconut oil and a few drops of jojoba oil warmed up in the microwave make my all time favorite hair mask (just be sure to rinse a few times with shampoo to get the mixture out). And with the summer upon us coconut water is pretty much the perfect drink to keep your electrolytes balanced and keep you hydrated. In one form or another it seems there is nothing a little coconut can't help ya out with.

Messy Up-Do Inspiration...Accidental Brilliance Monday Muse

...although most days I wear my hair down, there is something about just throwing it up in a messy bun, ponytail or braid that on certain days is the only way to make it out the door on time. I recently came across this great little video from hair extraordinaire Frederic Birault over on his blog Cut by Fred. Short, sweet, simple and totally muse worthy.

Sunday Simple Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from Isbells

...with mindfulness a person always prospers, there seems nothing else so true. Being mindful might perhaps be the most important thing we can be...mindful of what we say, what we do, how we treat each other and most of all how we treat ourselves. I wonder what the world would look like if we all practiced being just a bit more mindful. I suppose it might be a sweeter, a simpler place to exist,  the sort of place where indeed we would all prosper in ways we might not even imagine. So be MINDFUL at every turn and with every step, who knows what might happen, it's worth a try that's for sure.

For Today...

...what is done is done and the amazing part about life is that it continually gives you chances to do better and more than you had done before. The story of your life starts over every single day, so take what you know, pack up your best memories and all the lessons you have learned and get out there and write the next chapter. There is nobody quite like you, capable of what you are meant to do. This is your story and only you can write it. Don't worry about what has come before focus on what will be.

Can't Take My Eyes Off The Artwork of Gabriel Dawe...

Can't take my eyes off what is unbelievably just simply thread . The artwork of Gabriel Dawe is one part optical illusion and another part a testament to what is possible when you think outside the box. There is also the notion that when you take a risk outside the box and do something that is not necessarily easy the result can be sorta magical.

...I learned a long time ago that there will be people who may not appreciate what it is that you give them, how much you share of yourself but, that is never a good enough reason to give up on someone. Benefits of Raspberry Ketone...Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series

I recently started taking Raspberry Ketone and although I can't report on the results quite yet, it has some really interesting health benefits. Raspberry Ketone is a compound that is extracted from raspberries although it can be cultured synthetically. Capable of bonding with free radicals in the body and acting to remove carcinogens and toxins they also have the ability to suppress appetite and can bond with fat in the stomach to increase the rate at which fat is burned and melted away.  A study conducted in Japan also concluded that raspberry ketone plays a role in increasing skin elasticity and also in promoting hair growth. A dose of 200mg seems to be the recommended dose taken in the morning although,  there are no side effects so more can be taken without any harm.  This stuff is definitely worth checking out !

READS. Wishes Fulfilled by Wayne Dyer

Without a doubt I never miss anything written by Wayne Dyer. I carry in my wallet something he said that has stuck with me..." what you think determines what happens to you, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our mind. " This book is dedicated to mastering the art of realizing all our desires. The greatest gift we have been given is the gift of our imagination. Everything that now exists was once imagined. And everything that will ever exist must first be imagined. Wishes Fulfilled is designed to take the reader on a journey of discovery, wherein you can begin to realize the amazing manifesting powers that you possess within you and create a life in which all that you imagine for yourself becomes a present fact. By practicing the specific technique for retraining your subconscious mind, we are encouraged to not only place into our imagination what we would like to manifest for ourselves, the book gives you the specific tools for realigning your life so you can live out your highest calling and stay connected to your Source of being. A sort of guidebook to train your imagination in a new way. Your wishes-all of them-can indeed be fulfilled. We do all have the ability to become the person you were destined to be. And somehow this book is a gentle reminder that like that quote in my wallet says " what we think determines what happens to us."
