I started thinking today that we are often focused on the end result + we sometimes forget to slow down to look at the ground we have covered. Think about it, when was the last time you took a minute to praise yourself for how far you have come ? Time moves so fast + there is always something more we think we need to see, pressure we feel to be more, do more- but if we each took the time to realize how far we have come, we might be surprised at the progress we have already made. There will always be more to do in the pursuit of being the best version of ourselves- don't forget to take pride in the amazing things you have done so far + still have left to do...

...she reminded herself to think outside the box, no matter what she was looking for. She thought of a favorite C.S. Lewis quote that said..."there are far better things ahead than any we leave behind". As long as you take optimism, enthusiasm + flexibility along with you, it's unlimited the amount of potential you have. Look for the answers in the places you have not sought them before. Be proactive + embrace the uncertainty, the impact will be not only physically but spiritually + intellectually transformative.

I always get excited when I find a new supplement that I was not familiar with. Over the years I have gone through phases of taking lots of vitamins + supplements daily to more recently taking a few very key ones. I recently read an interesting article on the benefits of Astaxanthin and was so intrigued I did some further reading. Although I am still not sure how to pronounce it, this supplement is getting added to my daily supplement list for sure. It is hailed as one of the most helpful supplements in fighting the signs of aging on the skin, mind + body. In this crazy fast paced world we are living in, if there is something that can help slow down the way we age, make us stronger and less fatigued it is worth investigating.
The supplement is extracted from marine algae and said to be more powerful than almost any other anti-aging supplement. It has been proven to physically + drastically improve the appearance of skin to help with fine wrinkles, freckles and age spots. It goes directly into the nervous system to help support your brain, joint + skeletal system. It is used by athletes to help build muscle + aid in muscle recovery after a work-out and increase endurance. It is also noted as able to help high blood pressure. Although sometimes the best way to get our vitamins is through our food, Astaxanthin is best delivered in pill/supplement form. Few things to watch out for- make sure the formula you buy is created from marine micro algae + make sure it contains some sort of oil or fatty acid that will help you absorb it most effectively. Recommended dosage is a minimum of 4mg daily. Although there is no fountain of youth, it doesn't hurt to include things in your diet that make the road to well-being a bit smoother, don't you think ?

...for the inspiration that says be a free-spirit. For the confidence to walk on with a spirit that fears nothing and doesn't let anything hold you back. In the pursuit of simplicity because, in that simplicity there is a natural beauty. For the inspiration that calls you to walk to edge + take a leap of faith.

Watch with bright eyes this moment. Don't worry about what is left behind + don't think of anything as a setback...it is merely a set-up for what is next. Accept this moment no matter what it is, good or bad with utter gratitude + know there is a plan. Until the next door opens, be grateful for the moment...this moment.

...we all yearn for something + because we get caught up in what becomes the day to day, the shape of things, we forget. We forget to take the time to think about what we really want to be, see + do. If you take a minute to remove any limitations that you have put on yourself...what do you really want most ? We tend to get caught up in situations, relationships + experiences forgetting to check in with ourselves. Life can easily get ahead of you, so you have to take inventory every once in awhile of what is missing + get out + find it. For today just ask yourself...what do you really want most ?

...I read something today that said, no matter how cold it gets, literally or figuratively I suppose...your destiny will always keep you warm. We sometimes forget that despite everything that is happening around us, we each have a destiny we are meant to live up to. Our job is to never give up + continue to move ourselves towards that destiny. You'll never change what's been done + what's gone. You will however, always be able to change how you react to what has happened. Smile + shine...keep moving on.

This song played over in my head today. The lyrics floating in the recess of my thoughts even after it had stopped playing. Like a simple love letter left in the pocket of his worn-in winter coat. On the way to work he would put his hand in his pocket + find it. Smiling as he read it, thinking about her...you love me especially different every time. You keep me on my feet happily excited...you ignite me, invite me, co-write me...you love me.

...any which way you like it. I suppose the phrase could be used for a number of different things. Somehow the idea alludes to the variety we all seek, although the particulars of what we each desire different, consistent is the need for variation. The idea that, although we all rely on some certainty in our lives, there is the necessity for uncertainty...the element of surprise or the turn of events, unexpected + yet welcome. The steps you take outside your comfort zone where, the truly amazing moments happen.

There will come a time when something will end + although you might not be in control of the timing, it is important that you honor the end so that, whatever is meant to happen next can unfold. Life has a beautiful way of lining up if you let it. If you go with the flow of the way things are happening, you will see that there is incredible synchronicity...nothing ends before it's time + nothing begins before you are ready. Free yourself from the idea that you are in control...simply let it go + let it flow.
... it was the beating of his heart that on many nights lulled her to sleep. With her hand resting on his chest, a steady beat like the ticking of the clock beside the bed. As her breath slowed drifting to dreams, he watched her sleep. In the morning he would tell her that she looked beautiful as she slept...peaceful he had said. It had been years since they had seen each other + yet when they finally met again, it was as if no time had passed, as if the clock beside the bed had stopped- time had been suspended + although they were different somehow they were the same. Still...she was his favorite.

I have long believed that our senses + the way we experience things is the key to our well-being. It is up to each of us to decide how we experience everything that crosses our path. I believe that sense memory is very important in maintaining a balanced life. By that I mean that the way we remember things- the way they looked, sounded, felt, and tasted. Try it, think about an experience where you felt happy or content, there is no doubt a sense memory is attached to it. You can probably recall the way someone looked- what they were wearing, the way it felt to hug them, the scent of their perfume or the smell of the candle that was burning, the sound of their voice or the taste of something you ate and drank- instantly through the senses you are transported to the moment, this moment where you felt content. I recently had a cup of jasmine tea + instantly without thinking about it after the first sip was transported back to a day where I knew complete happiness. It was years ago, I took an impromptu road trip by myself up the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur...a day I will never forget. I am not sure what it was but, I was overcome with a sense of how amazing life is, I remember feeling lucky, feeling happy. There is a mythical quality to Big Sur, a beauty + energy that is unsurpassed + so rare. I think back to that day often, to the small bake shop I found where I stopped for a cup of jasmine tea, the taste still lingers + on days where I feel a bit lost or unsure, I travel back to that day + let the feeling of happiness I experienced surround me.
Today I bought a box of jasmine tea + realized that when it comes to tea, jasmine is not only delicious but so good for you. The antioxidants in jasmine tea can help protect your body against damage from free radicals. It has been proven to have the same properties as green tea + proven to promote weight loss. It has also been proven to reduce fat + aid in cholesterol absorption. There have been many studies that point to the fact that it helps in preventing cancer. Best of all jasmine essential oil is believed to have a tranquilizing effect proven to act as a mild sedative. So on the days when you feel a bit stressed or the nights you can't fall asleep a cup of warm jasmine tea might just fix you right up.
...and today is the first day of the rest of your life. A clean white slate, a new start where absolutely anything is possible. Take a deep breath + let it all go. Breathe it in- the love, anticipation, inspiration + expectations of all that life has in store for you. With the best intentions + commitment to work hard, step forward + go get what is meant to be yours...what you deserve, what is waiting for only you.

...there is something to the thought that, there are tiny miracles happening at every moment of every single day. Something to the thought that as soon as you change your perspective on how you see things, the things you see change. If you begin to see everything as a miracle, no matter what life presents you, you will be prepared + appreciative. Keep your expectations high + seek them out, the tiny miracles...they are everywhere.

One of the best pieces of advice someone gave me is that we must detach + only focus on this moment. Let go of what happened five minutes ago, five days ago + focus on the now. What is done is done + what is next has not happened. You have arrived at this moment because of what came before + what it is preparing you for next. For today, TRUST THIS MOMENT.

There will be moments in life where you will be tested...you will have to stand up as tall as you can + with everything that you are, proceed forward. It will be the beating of your heart that will guide you + the knowing that what is meant to happen will happen. There is an amazing theory that when you concentrate on something new, away from what is currently not working or falling into place as you would like, what is right expands. When what is right expands suddenly life opens up + you are presented with more options, more positivity + what was not working falls away- life becomes easier because the pieces begin to fall into place. There is a simplicity + like the feeling of sitting on a beach with a light breeze, bright sun + waves crashing, there is a calm that takes over...suddenly you believe that anything is possible + it is. Find something new + let it expand.

...layers, we all have them. Beneath what is the surface, the depth of who we truly are exists. The essence of what we are made of...the hopes, fears, goals + desires. We all have our very own blueprint, the plans in our mind's eye of how we want our lives to look. For some it is clear + for others it is a work in progress. What is essential is that, if we are not living up to it, we must either adjust our plan or do something more to live up to it. It is the layers of our life that create the blueprint, the masterpiece that becomes who we are. Your blueprint is not the same as anyone else's+ what works for you will not work for anyone else. The layers that you have accumulated are what make you unique. It is your job to recognize + live up to your highest potential starting right now, in this moment.

Been trying to clear out my closets lately not only literally but I suppose figuratively + it is the words of Zen Buddhist monk, poet + peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh that ring incredibly true. " Our actions are our only true belongings ". We live in a society where, what we have is often looked at before who we are. His words so clearly urge that our actions, how we treat others + ourselves are the true measure of a person. All of the belongings that we collect over a lifetime will never amount to anything- it will be our actions, our relationships and contributions that will have mattered most.

...and sometimes like sand something or someone will slip through your hands + it is only after it is gone, they are gone that you realize what you had. That does not mean they were meant to stay because some things end, in certain cases they have to end. Only in retrospect do you learn to truly treat people especially the ones you are connected to with the most gentle respect. Only in retrospect do you realize that true connections are not always common...when you find one, cherish + take care of it.
...it was on long walks on city streets that she let her mind wander to thoughts she had collected over time. Strung together they seemed practical + yet poetic. Don't regret anything because it got you where you are now- someone had once told her. Focus on where you want to go next + go in that direction leaving only tracks of where you have been behind you. Things can + will get better, always have confidence in that + in yourself.

There is no doubt that there are so many different foods + supplements that you can incorporate into your daily diet to make you healthier, happier + more fit. It can sometimes get overwhelming deciding what to take or not take but, there are a few that belong on every list. Liquid Chlorophyll doesn't get much press but, when it comes to a supplement that is packed with an amazing nutritional punch this green liquid is like gold + worth putting on the must take list. Chlorophyll is the green pigment in plants that harnesses the sun’s energy in photosynthesis. When ingested it has the power to regenerate our bodies at the molecular and cellular level and is known to help cleanse the body, fight infection, help heal wounds, and promote the health of the circulatory, digestive, immune, and detoxification systems. Chlorophyll consumption increases the number of red blood cells and, therefore, increase oxygen utilization by the body. Liquid chlorophyll also reduces the binding of carcinogens to DNA in the liver and other organs. Containing high levels of the vitamins A, C and E, liquid chlorophyll has strong antioxidant capacity and has also been found to help reduce inflammation. It contains vitamin K, C, folic acid, iron, calcium + protein: which are all also essential in building and repairing red blood cells and boosting our immune system. Most impressively it helps detoxify the body, removing built-up toxins, which can manifest in disease, skin disorders + dull skin. I take a shot each morning + can feel the difference when I skip it. You can grab a bottle in most health food stores or click on over here to order a bottle of this green powerhouse. One shot a day each morning on an empty stomach will help you move further along the path to optimum health !
...as he stood in the doorway to watch her dress that evening, he thought to himself, it was not only because she was beautiful that he loved her, it was because of her soul...the depth + strength of her soul. As she slipped into the velvet tuxedo jacket she wore that night she smiled at him. Noticing she was wearing nothing underneath it, he smiled back + winked. Simply he said I love you + in that moment not only did she feel strong, she felt safe.

Have you ever thought about what advice you would give your younger self if you had the opportunity...take more chances, always stand up for yourself, be kind- it does come back, be honest- most importantly with yourself, don't be afraid to love someone- just go for it, listen to your inner voice- it will always guide you in the right direction, forgive those who have wronged you...there is no need to carry around the actions of someone else, best to forget. Take every lesson that life is presenting you + do better when you know better. Be strong + just keep breathing.

Integrity...the word floats within my thoughts these days quite often, that + the importance of finding a way to have it as a thread that runs through everything we do. Someone once told me that the way you do anything is the way you do everything. Take a minute to think about that, the way you do anything is the way you do everything- it is so powerful. It makes you think about every single interaction you have, and the importance of the integrity that is required to do the right thing to honor each person or experience that crosses your path. Not everyone walks forward with integrity as a guiding force, but the decision of what leads you forward is yours + yours alone...and it is a decision you must re-commit to each morning. Integrity is about a state of being + life is essentially about how you treat people + how you handle situations. Sometimes people will treat you differently than you expected + handle situations in a way you would not have...do not let that concern you- walk on with integrity + let it be your guiding force.

Continuing on my quest to find the best in all natural beauty products- a few new favs along with a blast from the past. I can't stress how deeply I believe that everything you put on your skin should be as natural as possible...free of preservatives, parabens, sulfates + synthetic coloring. Don't forget the skin is the bodies largest organ so, essentially everything you put on the skin goes straight into the body. For me it was a decision I made many years ago, keep it natural, organic + as pure as possible when it comes to creams, potions, lotions + make-up. I keep the make-up minimal to none so that the skin can breathe but, I am all for a sweet smelling solution to keeping skin silky soft, supple + young. Once you read the hazards + health risks in most of the products on the market, no doubt you will jump on the all natural train with me. If your curious about some of your favorite products click on over here to check out the ingredients + in many cases health risks. We only get this one body + as I always say, it's your job to treat it right.

...things happen in life to call you to grow, to urge you to be brave + dare you to be wild at heart. That does not mean to be reckless or act without hesitation but rather, to constantly be focused on the growth...your growth. Sometimes it means taking a chance + with chance comes the potential for pain. Wait for the retrospect, it will arrive + with it the purpose will reveal itself. Remember, the only way to grow is to change + the only way to change is to be open to the unknown...so let it happen + let it go.

For as long as I can remember I have kept tucked in my medicine cabinet scribbled on pieces of scrap paper thoughts that struck me as profound, thoughts I would like to read each day as I reach for my face wash or toothbrush. As the years pass + the thoughts no longer resonate or pertain to where I am, I replace them. There is one that has stayed year after year it says, forget everything except what is possible within you now. I have always understood it to mean, take the beauty from each situation that you experience...let go of all the rest that did not fit, work or feel right...focus on what is possible right now. Incredibly simple + for me incredibly powerful.
...because not everything is at it seems. Believing that it is ok to not know what is next teaches you to become comfortable with existing in the unknown. There are very few things that are certain in life, the easier you flow through the unknown, the more successful you will be. Embrace the mystery of it all + set your expectations higher than you ever have.

With the most indulgent part of the holiday season over, now is the time to get yourself ready to start the new year in tip top shape. There is always lots of talk about cleansing and detoxing and in moderation it can be a good thing, but you need to be sure to do it it in a healthy way. Nothing overly extreme for two reasons, first because it is difficult to stick to it and second because it is not good for your body to go to extremes. There are small steps you can take, foods you can incorporate and others to eliminate to get 2013 started right. There are so many books out on the subject, Clean by Alejandro Junger is a favorite of mine which I have written about before...easy to follow guidance and great recipes with real food as opposed to some of the strictly liquid cleanses out there. The key is eating clean food. Once you get rid of the processed food in your diet there is no doubt you will see + feel the results. I guarantee after you follow his program or any program you find that suits your needs you will feel better for it. Every once in awhile just like the mind, your body needs a break and like the title of his book you need to Clean house a little. Here is handy list of my favorite fruits + vegetables for juicing to get yourself on the road to clean livin'.
...because it is a new year + you have the chance to start anew. Keep this thought in your back pocket...anything can happen + everything will. Know that without real change, nothing real happens. Put your best foot forward + leave behind what is not worth keeping. Make what was good, great + find something that inspires you, really inspires you.
