Accidental Brilliance Muse...Holi Festival

...and then life presents you a moment of unexpected joy. Although nothing when you focus your mind is unexpected. We bring about all that happens in our life by our thoughts...especially joy. Happiness, joy whatever you call it,  arrives because you deserve it + if you make the space for it + believe in it,   it will find it's way to you. By chance I stumbled upon a gloriously beautiful Hindu Holi  Festival yesterday right around the block from my apartment. To myself I thought,  I heart NY but that thought was quickly trumped by the thought, I heart life. There in a tiny park a hundred or so people had come together to share what can only be described as sheer joy.  I have long been fascinated by the Holi Festival that is traditionally celebrated all over India, a yearly celebration to welcome Spring and also a chance to let loose. I could have stayed all afternoon taking photographs + can best describe it as an explosion of amazingly bright colored powder that symbolizes the beauty of life, the mystery of all that we can't explain but strongly feel...it is of happiness, rebirth + the magnificence of all the joy that is meant for each of us to experience each day.

Sunday Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from Shawn Lee

JUST BE. The wise words I repeat over + over in my head each day. There is nothing you can do but BE...content, kind, compassionate, calm, honest + true. You will attract all that you need by simply being yourself. We all have this amazing ability to manifest whatever it is we most desire. Always know that who you are nobody else could ever be, what you have nobody else has.

Love What She Is Wearing...

Keep it simple is the way I try to move through life + less is more resonates most strongly with me lately. Travel lightly each day I continue to remind myself. Take only what you need + what you give, give without hesitation...by that I mean your love, wisdom + kindness.

Accidental Brilliance Picks...

often write about letting life flow to you. I suppose because, sometimes we forget that staying open, being open is a choice we have to re-make each day. If you allow it, life has a natural flow, a fluidity that when you stay in the positive is amazing. It is only when we limit what we can be, can have or see that the flow is interrupted + the outcome altered. Wake up each day, decide what you want +  stay focused on it...stay in the moment. It's s a simple mantra + yet essential...Today I will let life flow to me + know that I can create the life I want.

Phosphorescent...Tunes For Today

...over + again this plays in the background of my thoughts. In the recesses where doubt  + fear have no place. In the place where I know anything no, everything is possible no matter where you are on your journey. What is it that Don Quixote said..." maybe the greatest madness is to see life as it is rather than what it could be"...what it could be, put all your energy there because if you can envision it, you can have it...

The Girl Has Got It Goin' On...

...and it was a sense of synchronicity the coincidence of events combined with a sort of mystery that could only be explained by the notion that EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED + everything counts that had her preoccupied. Somehow this distracted her + yet she was still able to focus, if that seems possible. The lens was foggy but,  the photograph crystal clear.  She reminded herself to shut her eyes in order to see...keep moving in the direction that is forward,  that is where the momentum is...where the answers are.

Benefits of Ginger...Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series

Lately I have been grating fresh ginger + adding it to my tea, not only because it gives it a bit of a spicy kick but it is so good for you.  In traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine ginger is given the status of virtual medicine chest, capable of healing almost anything that ails you. There are so many uses but these are just a few that got my attention . Ginger improves absorption and assimilation of nutrients in the body + helps with digestion. It is a proven anti-inflammatory, so it helps with pain. If you are feeling a little blue it is said to help your mood, it is great when you are feeling congested or have a cold.  If you are feeling nausea or have a stomach ache chew on a little ginger to feel better. There are so many ways to use ginger in your diet my favorite is either added to your favorite flavor of tea or this simple ginger tea recipe...simple, sweet + so satisfying.

Simple Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from The Kooks...

Lately I am struck with idea that you are always where you need to be, this includes the times where you are blissfully comfortable or terribly unfamiliar. Life has a way of unfolding just as it should + although we don't have control of everything in our life,  we can control how much we love + how gently we live.

For Today...

...truly all you need is less. The more content you can become with less the more you can appreciate the love you have, the opportunities you have + the life you have. We live in a society where sometimes it feels like we need to have more, be more, do more but it is when you realize that less is actually more that what life is truly about becomes clear.

Rachel Yamagata...Playin' On Repeat

Someone asked me today what is the best advice I would give + without much thought I said...take good care of yourself + know that you deserve love + honesty. Remember to love deeply, trust, believe in yourself + when you walk away never turn your back on anything or anyone instead,  make peace with all that does not work out + realize that it will bring you closer to what is next, what is right. Memories are beautiful + they are what hold your history, your story,  as well as the foundation for your future. Live fully in the moment + do not regret anything. Speak your mind so it can be heard. Find people who understand, love + appreciate you. Never back down from something that you feel strongly in your heart + listen to your heart, always. Please no matter what, don't expect anything less than everything. Make your own magic because your magic is not like anyone else's magic.

Taken by the artwork of Peter Bonde...

Taken by the artwork of Peter Bonde. It somehow reminds me that there is this space between the chaos of life and the shape of things where chance lives. Each painting is a reminder that although life can be messy + sometimes doesn't turn out as you plan or expect, it is still beautiful + you must take every chance you can.

...go find something that intrigues, fascinates + inspires you. Find something, someone or someplace that captures your interest + enthusiasm. I guess in other words...go get lost + find something that makes you happy. Life is short so don't wait to live your life, really live your life.

Guided Meditation...Playin' On Repeat

For as long as I can remember I have always managed to find a bit of quiet in each day. A few minutes where I don't do anything but sit still + empty my mind of anything that has been holding me back or weighing me down. As the years pass,  the world continues to become busier, more complicated + filled with distractions. Finding a bit of quiet time becomes increasingly more important to me . The only way to not allow life to over complicate you is to seek simplicity every single day.  It is in the moments of simplicity + silence that you create for yourself where a calm can be achieved. A calm that can foster creativity, sense + purpose. There are so many ways to sit with yourself in quiet thought + for each person the approach is different, the constant is that we all deserve the time each day to shut everything off + rest effortlessly. This is a guided meditation I frequently practice after which I sit quietly, calm + grateful...

Accidental Brilliance Picks...

I remember reading something that Ansel Adams once said- he said that you have to " look with the most perceptive eyes + trust your own instincts to know what statement you want to make ". To that I would add...just make sure you make a statement + make it a bold one.

The Milk Carton Kids...Tunes For Today

The other day someone said to me that...sometimes something is too good to not be true. In that moment the thought seemed  so right, still does. We are taught to believe that when something shows up in our life + feels right, really right,  we need to think it is too good to be true. But, what if...what if you flipped the thinking + when something showed up that felt right you accepted it + let it be true. Wonder how different our lives would be if instead of questioning certain things, people + experiences we just let life happen. There are some things that are,  indeed too good to not be true...stay open to them as flow to you.

The Girl Has Got It Goin' On...

...and that is the way forward, if you can master the mind, you can make anything happen. Energy follows thought which means,  whatever you are thinking about is directing your life. Think positive, think prosperous + think peaceful thoughts that transcend whatever difficulty you may be experiencing. Move forward with a masterful plan of where it is you want to be. Do not let anything take you off course. Direct your life, your energy + your thoughts to where you want to be instead of where you presently are.

Benefits of Pineapple...Accidental Brilliance Superfood + Supplement Series

There is nothing quite like a fresh sweet slice of pineapple- something about it transports you to somewhere tropical where the only care in the world is which bathing suit you are going to wear + what book you are going to read while the crashing of waves,  the only soundtrack you need. Pineapple is a pretty amazing fruit not only for it's taste but also for the many health + beauty benefits it contains. The most notable benefit in pineapple is Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme. Proteolytic means "breaks down protein", which is why pineapple  is known to be a digestive aid. It helps the body digest proteins more efficiently. Bromelain is also considered an effective anti-inflammatory. Regular ingestion of at least one half cup of fresh pineapple daily has been found to relieve painful joints + has been proven to produce mild pain relief as well as help build stronger bones. In Germany, Bromelain is approved as a post-injury medication because it is thought to reduce inflammation and swelling. Interestingly, it also has a long history in folk medicine and natural beauty treatments. It's a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acid, which  helps with exfoliation. There are a number of simple ways to use pineapple on your skin but a homemade mask is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells + reduce dullness leaving you with shiny, bright, refreshed skin. And, I guess if you can't get away for a little vacation,  this mask is an instant way to give yourself a few minutes to just chill out.

Talented edible gardener + singer Lauri Kranz has made a career of creating bountiful gardens for clients in California. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that we should " adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience ". I have long believed that with patience all makes sense, much can be figured out + what is meant to take shape, always does.

Simple Wisdom of Buddha + Somethin' from Neil Young..

There is an inevitability to endings- that is one might say, part of the beauty of life...when one thing ends something else shows up to fill its place. Things change, always trust that is ok. When you let things go that no longer fit, it is usually the case that what shows up in the form of a new beginning takes you farther along the road than you would have gone. Let things end that no longer work, let go of people who don't understand you or let you be yourself + try your hardest to always be open to the possibility in every new beginning that appears in your path.
